County commissioners award stimulus funded sidewalk projects

County commissioners awarded two federally funded sidewalk projects to a local company and one other to a firm out of south Florida. BMI Incorporated of St. George Island was the low bidder for two sidewalk projects in the St. George Island commercial district. The company will get about 100 thousand dollars in federal stimulus money to design and build sidewalks along Franklin Boulevard and along Pine Street on St. George Island. A company called Semper Fi construction out of Palmetto, Florida will get about 100 thousand dollars to do sidewalk work along Bluff road in Apalachicola. There was a lot of competition for the work; about 8 companies bid on each of the projects. The county’s selections will now go to the Florida Department of Transportation for final approval before the projects are officially awarded. Once that is complete, the companies will have until December the 31st to complete the work.
