Franklin County to hold final public budget hearing today
Franklin County will hold its final public budget hearing today. The county’s budget this year is just over 47.4 million dollars, local taxpayers will fund about 10.2 million dollars of that. Last year local property taxes brought in nearly 12 million dollars, the year before that it was over 14 million. During the first budget hearing there were a number of taxpayers who felt the county could cut even more to lower local taxes. The tentative budget was approved, however, on a 3 to 2 vote. Tonight’s hearing is the last before the new budget takes effect on October the 1st. The final public budget hearing will be held at 5:15 at the Franklin County Courthouse Annex in Apalachicola.
