Clam farming in Franklin County will soon be on an episode of “Dirty jobs” on the Discovery Channel. “Dirty Jobs” focuses on some of the more difficult and messy occupations in the US. In the most recent issue of the University of Florida publication ‘The bivalve bulletin” – they say the show filmed an episode in Alligator Harbor in August. The show’s host, Mike Rowe, worked with local clam farmers Clayton Lewis, Bruce Skelton and Chip Earl at the Alligator Harbor Aquaculture Use Area. The clam farmers said Mister Rowe had some trouble securing the clam bags underwater – but on the plus side he could hold his breath for a long time. The crew also filmed clam processing at St. Theresa and filmed a Franklin County clam bake. People should be able to see the show sometime between December and March so make sure to keep your eyes on the TV listings.
