State officials are expecting 2010 to be another tight budget year and for the second year in a row the legislature is not accepting community budget requests. Historically state legislators have traveled to Florida’s counties before the state budget process begins to find out what potentially state funded projects are needed by county and city governments. It’s a way of directing tax dollars toward specific local projects like roads, water projects and parks. Because of falling tax revenue statewide the legislature did not accept community budget requests last year, and County planner Alan Pierce said that the legislature has already informed Franklin County that it won’t be happening this year either.
