Assistance available for Franklin County seafood workers

There are some assistance programs beginning this week to help local seafood workers who are facing financial troubles because of the recent bay closures. Seafood workers include anyone who works on the bay as well as dock workers and truck drivers.

Seafood workers can come to the Emergency Management office at the Apalachicola Airport today for assistance in applying for food stamps. There will be workers to help with the application process from 9 until 4 today.

Seafood workers who are behind on utilities and rent should come to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Apalachicola at 10 AM on Thursday where caseworkers will be on hand to provide assistance.

There will also be a seafood workers association meeting on Thursday afternoon at 6 at the Eastpoint fire house where people can find even more help. There will be food distribution for people who need it as well as applications for rent and mortgage assistance from the Salvation Army.
