Big changes in store for Chili Cook-off

People will see some changes at the St. George Island Charity chili cook-off this year. This will be the 28th year for the charity event which raises well over 100 thousand dollars annually for the St. George Island fire department and first responders unit.

One of the first changes people will notice is the fence around the park and the 5 dollar entry fee. People will also not be allowed to bring in coolers or alcohol but will still be able to buy beer at the park. For the first time the chili cook-off will also close down Gulf beach Drive and the Bike Path from Franklin Boulevard to BJs Pizza to cut down on traffic on the big day.

St. George Island fire Chief Jay Abbott said they are trying to tone the event down a little this year and make sure that people stay safe. The chili cookoff will be held on March the 6th, organizers say they are looking for chili judges and for items for this year’s charity auction. If you have an item to donate, call Jay Abbott at 653-6462.
