County commissioners have agreed to officially dissolve the Lanark Village water and sewer district. The district has been dormant for nearly two years, since the city of Carrabelle took over water and sewer services for Lanark Village.
County commissioners felt they should allow the independent district to continue to exist in name even if it didn’t have any function to insure that there would always be an entity to oversee water service to Lanark Village.
Lanark Village residents, however, did not feel the same way. They argued that the three member district was not a good form of government and they would never want to see it again.
County commissioners on Tuesday sided with Lanark Village and agreed to begin the process of dissolving the district. Commissioner Cheryl Sanders said not doing so would be a betrayal of trust to the people of Lanark Village.
County attorney Michael Shuler said if something happens to keep Carrabelle from providing water service to Lanark Village the county will have to create a new dependent district – but he added that would not cause any real problems.
