Franklin County election results for August 24th

County commission chairman Smokey Parrish will continue to represent District 4 on the board for another 4 years.

Mister Parrish won his re-election with 65 percent of the vote, defeating Charles Wilson 437 votes to 229.

David Hinton of Lanark Village also won his re-election bid for school board.

He took 53 percent of the vote in the District 2 school board race defeating Wilburn Ray Messer with 336 votes to 294.

Those were the only local races in this week’s election.

Local Democrats also chose Allen Boyd over Al Lawson in the race for congress.

Boyd took 55 percent of the local vote with 1044 votes to Al Lawson’s 848.

In other statewide races, Franklin County Democrats voted for Jeff Greene for US Senator, Alex Sink for Governor, Dan Gelber for Attorney General and Bill Montford for State Senator.

Franklin County Republicans voted for Marco Rubio for US Senator, Steve Southerland for Congress, Rick Scott for Governor and Jeff Kottkamp for Attorney General.

There was also a race for circuit judge – local voters chose Karen Gievers with 656 votes followed by J. Layne Smith with 454.

Turnout for Tuesday’s election was very low at just over 34 percent.
