The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman that they believe is responsible for a number of burglaries in the area, including some in Alligator Point.
On August 19th, deputies arrested 51 year old Catherine Ren Clussman of 358 Persimmon Road in Sopchoppy; she has been charged with grand theft and burglary of a dwelling with additional charges likely as the investigation expands and continues.
The arrest came after detectives went to Miss Clussman’s home to serve an outstanding warrant and discovered exterior storm windows and a ceiling fan that had been reported stolen from a Wakulla County Sheriff’s deputy’s home on August the 6th.
Detectives then received a signed search warrant from Wakulla County Judge Jill Walker and searched the home where they found nearly 5500 dollars worth of property stolen from an estimated 10 to 15 homes in Sopchoppy and Ochlockonee Bay.
The items recovered included clocks, artwork, a DVD player, televisions, tools, jewelry, lawn decorations, paintings, lights, a ladder, fishing equipment, bowling balls and more.
The search also led to the recovery of a volunteer fire department radio that was reported stolen from Edward Dishong and the Ochlockonee Bay Volunteer Fire Department on March 7th.
The fire radio went off while law enforcement officials were searching the home. .
Officers said owners of some of the recovered property have been identified but they may need to go door to door in an attempt to determine other owners.
Clussman and a juvenile have assisted the sheriff’s office identifying some of the homes of victims.
Clussman could face additional charges in Franklin County as well in connection with burglaries committed on Alligator Point.
She is being held in the Wakulla County Jail under a $6,000 bond.
An additional arrest in the case is anticipated.
