Progress Energy Florida says lower fuel costs and greater efficiency could save its customers a little money next year.
Progress Energy Florida this week filed its projected 2011 costs for fuel and purchased power, environmental upgrades and nuclear charges with the Florida Public Service Commission.
Based on the current filings, these changes would save a residential household about $4.40 per month on a 1,000 kWh bill, or over 50 dollars a year.
The average reduction will be up to 3 percent for commercial customers and up to 2 percent for industrial customers.
The company said the decrease in the amount customers pay for fuel is due in large part to lower commodity prices for coal and natural gas, the company’s two largest fuel sources.
The company also cites improvements to power plant efficiency and effective fuel management.
The Public Service Commission will hold hearings on the proposed fuel rates from November 1st through the 3rd.
If approved by the PSC the new fuel rates would take effect in January.
