Independence Day Festivities Planned
In Apalachicola, Historic Apalachicola Mainstreet will host an old fashioned street parade, ice cream social and riverfront concert on July 3At around 9 pm a professional fireworks display will take place over the Apalachicola River at Riverfront Park.
 
Just up the street, the Apalachicola Maritime Museum will be hosting two events as part of the July 3celebrations.  Starting at 6:30 join them for a parade watching party. After the parade, the AMM folks will host a cookout starting at 7:30with live music.

On St. George Island, everyone is welcome to join in the annual July 4th Parade.  The parade is hosted by Eddie Teach's Raw Bar and parade entrants are to line up at10:30am at the corner of 3rd Street and West Pine. Prizes for Best Float, Best Theme, Best Decoration.  Later in the evening, there will be fireworks on the beach behind the Blue Parrot Bar & Grill.

Cape St. George Lighthouse Features Full Moon Climb
Watch the sun set and full moon rise from the top of the Cape St. George Lighthouse on Sunday, July 22 from 8-9:30pm. Tickets are $15.00 per person, or $10.00 for St. George Lighthouse Association members, and include light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the Full Moon.  After sunset, additional climbers are welcome at the top for a view of the Full Moon, as time and space permit. Reservations are recommended. Click here for more information. 

 Estuaries Day Sept 27
It's all about the Bay on Sept. 27as the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR)celebrates National Estuaries Day at its Research and Visitor Center in Eastpoint.The festivities will run from 1:30-6 p.m.and will feature family-friendly activities and exhibits.  The Visitor Center is located near the St. George Island Bridge at 108 Island Drive, Eastpoint.
 
Riverkeeper Group Hosts Paddling Trips 
Join the Apalachicola Riverkeepers July 27 for their monthly paddling trip in the Apalachicola watershed. The trips, hosted the 4th Saturday of every month,  are free to Riverkeeper members and $30 for non-members. Local expert guides accompany paddlers to educate aboutthe Apalachicola ecosystem, its floodplain, creeks, sloughs, and tributaries. Click here for more information.
 
Maritime Museum Opens Paddling & Rowing Center
On July 7, the Apalachicola Maritime Museum will host the grand opening of the AMM Paddling and Rowing Center. On July 21st and 22nd AMM will hosting full moon paddle trips accompanied by a support vessel to help ensure safety.

 


Area Features Dozens of Artificial Reefs
There are nearly 50 artificial reefs located offshore from the Franklin County shoreline. These fish hotels stretch from Alligator Point to Apalachicola and are responsible for providing valuable habitat for hundreds of fish species that migrate through the region. You can see the list of reef locations by clicking here.

Welcome To Summer At The Beach!
There are more than 250 miles of white-sand beaches just waiting for you in Franklin County. Probably the most famous beach in Franklin County is located on St. George Island. The Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park beach, located at the far east end on St. George Island, has been ranked one of America's Top Ten Beaches for the past three years. At nine miles in length, this is the longest beach front state park in Florida.
 
And that's just one beach. SGI Summer Sizzler
August 10
On Saturday, August 10th, St. George Island will host the 16th Annual St. George Island Sizzler 5K Race & One Mile Fun Run. Come on down to beautiful St. George Island and run in the sunshine! On-site registration begins at 3 pm, the one mile fun run begins at 5:30 pm and the 5K begins at 6 pm. A Tate's Hell Track Club production & A Gulf Winds Track Club Grand Prix event in 2013.
