Franklin County is now a Florida Blueway Trails Community

County Commissioners have approved a proclamation naming Franklin county as one of Florida’s Blueway trails communities.

The Florida Paddling Trails Association created the Blueway Community Program to help attract kayakers and canoeists to the state.

This program helps communities develop locations of interest to both in-state paddlers and out-of-state tourists.

There are over 40 designated paddling trails on various rivers and streams and the over 1,500-mile Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail.

By joining the program, Franklin County will get assistance in promoting its paddling opportunities as well as in applying for grants to help develop nature-based tourism and trail related infrastructure.

Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she hopes the program will encourage people to visit and increase our nature usage.

She said this is the type of activity that we really want to be associated with in Franklin County.

The proclamation was recommended by the local Tourist Development Council and approved unanimously by the county commission.
