Franklin
County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to tighten up local
rules covering camper and travel trailers storage.
The
current rule was created in 1982 and it allows people to store or park their
travel trailers on any lot they own in the county, provided the trailers are
not occupied.
That
allows people who own residential lots to leave a trailer on their property
permanently, and then periodically come down and use it.
But
it has also led to a number of people basically moving into campers on
residential lots which neighboring homeowners do not want to see.
The
county has decided that the best way to address the issue is to allow travel
trailers to be stored only on lots with a home on them.
Existing
campers will not be grandfathered, which means if the rule is changed, people
around the county who are living in campers will have to find somewhere else to
live.
There
are a few other items on the county commission agenda, including presentations
from the health department and from the Emerald Coast Warrior training program.
There
will also be some discussion of a Corps of Engineers trip to Apalachicola.
The
County commission meeting begins at 9 tomorrow at the courthouse annex in
Apalachicola.
