Operation Emerald Warrior will return to Franklin County in April

Franklin County will once again serve as a training ground for the military in April and May.
Operation Emerald Warrior will be held in our area beginning April the 21st; the operation is scheduled to run through the 30th.
This is the 5th year the program has used Franklin County sites for training.
The exercise will also include parts of Liberty and Calhoun counties
Operation Emerald Warrior is an Air Force Special Operations Command designed to train forces with lessons learned from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
The operation will include ground and air mobility operations including the use of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft as well as live and simulated munitions training.
The military says the impact on civilians should be minimal – but that doesn’t mean it won’t be loud at times.
Homeowners who might be impacted by the noise will be notified beforehand.

County commissioners did ask that the nighttime training be done as far from the public as possible, especially around the Apalachicola Airport.
