Gulf World Marine Institute gets grants to help stranded sea turtles

The Gulf World Marine Institute in Panama City has been awarded two grants that will help them rehabilitate stranded sea turtles.
The Institute responds to stranded sea turtles across the Florida Panhandle.
It was recently awarded over 8000 dollars from the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate Grants Program to upgrade its digital radiograph processer.
That machine allows them to x-ray the turtle to assess lung health, whether the turtle has swallowed any foreign objects and whether the turtle has any fractures on its skeleton.
The institute also received over 5400 dollars to purchase a large water proof animal scale which can hold the large loggerhead sea turtles that migrate along our coastline.

The scale not only allows doctors to administer proper drug dosages but also helps monitor the sea turtle’s recovery.
