Nearly 5 and half million dollars for
projects in Franklin County are in this year’s 82 billion dollar state budget.
The budget
includes 560 thousand dollars for oyster planting in the Apalachicola Bay.
There is also
50 thousand dollars to rehabilitate the old Carrabelle City Hall, 50 thousand
dollars for Fellowship Hall renovations and 180 thousand dollars for work at
the historic Fort Coombs Armory.
There are a
number of local park projects in the budget including 50 thousand dollars for work
at the DW Wilson Sports Complex in Apalachicola and 100 thousand dollars for
the Mayor Van Johnson Park.
The state
budget also includes 75 thousand dollars for three local art programs.
There are
also a number of road projects in the budget including a 1.5 million dollar repair
project for Cash Creek Bridge, over 1.7 million dollars for pavement
reconstruction on County Road 379 between Mill Road and Burnt Bridge Road and
about 210 thousand dollars for widening and resurfacing Ellis Van Vleet and 17th
streets in Apalachicola.
215 thousand
dollars is allotted for Carrabelle airport parking, and over 660 thousand is
allotted to rehab a runway at the Apalachicola airport.
But remember,
just because the money is in the budget now doesn’t mean it will make it
through the governor’s veto process.
The budget
still needs the governor’s signature before it takes effect on June the 1st.
