Franklin County has decided to add a little electricity to the ongoing project to beautify the entrance to St. George Island

Commissioners last week agreed to spend about 1700 dollars to add electrical receptacles along the right of way of Franklin Boulevard down to the welcome sign.

The money is coming out of the road paving fund.

Commission chairman Ricky Jones said the receptacles will allow the island to string Christmas lights on the new palm trees to make a very impressive Christmas display every year.

The beautification project itself is being funded through a 100 thousand dollar grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The money is paying for the materials and trees needed for landscaping the state-owned land, though it will fall to the county Parks and Recreation department to maintain the landscaping once its finished.
