Construction of an urgent care clinic in Carrabelle will begin on May the 4th, and much of the work on the million dollar project will be done by local workers.
County commissioners learned this week that the total cost of the 5000 square foot clinic will be 1,288,933 dollars. Any costs beyond that will have to be covered by the project manager, Ajax Construction.
Jay Smith, a vice president with Ajax told commissioners that much of the work will be done by local contractors. Six local firms were hired as part of the project, and together those firms will earn over 600 thousand dollars. Much of the rest of the work will be done by companies who have ties to Franklin County and much of the building materials will be purchased locally. Mister Smith said that in total more than a million dollars of the project funding would stay in Franklin County and there are still landscaping and irrigation projects to bid out.
Site work on the project is expected to begin on May the 4th and much of the work is expected to be complete by late November. The urgent care clinic should be seeing patients by next December.
The new clinic will provide work space for two doctors and include 6 exam rooms, plus x-ray and lab services and urgent care for emergency cases.
The entire cost of the project is being covered through a local sales tax designed to provide better health services in Franklin County.
