Local unemployment falls in March

Unemployment in Franklin County declined for the second month in a row in March. Franklin County’s unemployment fell from 10.5 percent in February to 9.9 percent in March. 492 Franklin County residents were looking for work – that’s down from 511 the month before.

The average unemployment rate in Florida was 12 percent in March. 52 of Florida’s 67 counties had unemployment rates above 10 percent with the highest unemployment in the state in Flagler County at 16.6 percent.

Gulf County saw its unemployment rate decline from 12.4 percent to 11.8 percent. 753 people were jobless there in March.

Wakulla County’s unemployment fell slightly from 9.3 percent to 9.1 percent – there are 1490 people looking for work there. Liberty County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida at 7.3 percent.
