North Florida recieves disaster declaration because of heavy rain

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 11 north Florida counties as primary natural disaster areas because of damage caused by excessive rainfall between November 11th, and December 23rd.

The 11 counties include Gulf, Liberty and Bay Counties. Farmers and ranchers in Franklin, Gadsden, Wakulla and Leon counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties are contiguous to the primary disaster area.

The counties were designated natural disaster areas on April, 15th, making all qualified farm operators in the designated areas eligible for low interest emergency loans from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

Farmers in eligible counties have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses. Interested farmers may contact their local USDA Service Centers for further information on eligibility requirements and application procedures or go on-line to disaster.fsa.usda.gov.
