Franklin County’s Emergency Management Office is beginning to stand down as it seems the oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is not moving in this direction at this time.
Since May the 4th the local Emergency Management Office has been at a Level Two, or partial activation to monitor the Deepwater Horizon response and its possible impact to the county. During that time the EOC worked with local officials to monitor the spill and create a boom plan that will be utilized if the oil threatens Franklin County.
As of this week, however, the Emergency Management Office has gone to“monitoring” status on the oil spill.
This basically means the EOC will continue to watch and monitor the oil spill but does not predict the oil to move this far east unless something changes radically.
