Franklin County Commissioners have approved a speed limit change for a portion of Airport Road in Apalachicola.
The speed limit on about 3800 feet of the road will drop from 45 miles an hour to 35 miles an hour, while the speed limit on about 1200 feet of the road around the DW Wilson Park will drop to 25 miles an hour. Commissioners said the speed limit around the park has to be lowered as a safety measure because of the large number of children that play in the area, especially now during baseball season.
Because cars park on both sides of the road at the park, children tend to dart out into the road which makes for a dangerous situation.
