Duke Energy customers to see increase in fuel costs

Duke Energy customers will see an increase in the amount the company charges for fuel costs beginning in January.

The increase will be 9.23 dollars a month.

The current total fuel charge of $116.06 will increase to $125.29.

The change comes primarily from increases in the cost of fuel needed to generate electricity as well as the cost of purchasing electricity from other companies.

Every year the Florida Public Service Commission has to decide how much of the cost each of Florida’s power companies can recovery on fuel and purchased power, capacity, conservation, and environmental requirements.

Utilities cannot make a profit on fuel charges.
