Eastpoint convenience store robbed at gunpoint, suspect caught quickly

            An armed robber burst into the Express Lane in Eastpoint today, but luckily no one was hurt and the suspect was captured quickly.

The incident happened just after 2 o’clock when a black male, who was later identified as Mister Willie Thomas of Dothan, Alabama, went into the Express Lane with a note and a gun and got a few hundred dollars from the cashier.

He fled on foot.

Express Lane workers were able to flag down Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Duane Cook who gave pursuit in the direction Mister Thomas was reported to have fled.

Detective Cook saw Mister Thomas running down Power line road away from the store where he jumped into a white Chevrolet Pickup and sped away towards Apalachicola.

He didn’t get far.

Mister Thomas was stopped at the High Hump of the John Gorrie Bridge by Apalachicola Police Officer Timmy Davis.

A search revealed that Mr. Thomas was in possession of a note and weapon used during the robbery.

He also had $795 in cash on his person that he stated was loot from the robbery.


The vehicle used during the robbery was found to be stolen as well.
