Franklin County commission laments resignation of DEP chief

Franklin County Commissioners have expressed some concerns about the departure of Mike Sole as the chief of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Mike Sole issued his letter of resignation last month; he has overseen the DEP since 2006.
His last day at work will be this Friday; he will be replaced by Mimi Drew who served as the agency’s deputy secretary of regulatory programs since 2007, and previously as director of the division of water resource management since January 1995.
Mister Sole has had a close relationship with Franklin County especially in regards to the ongoing water war between Alabama, Florida and Georgia and local commissioners wasn’t to make sure that that relationship continues.
The board said Tuesday that they want to insure that the new leadership continues to play a lead role in the fight over water usage in the Apalachicola Chattahoochee Flint River System.
The board issued a letter to DEP this week expressing their concerns about the change and asking that DEP not forget about Franklin County in the ongoing water negotiations.
