- At 8am Thursday, Tropical Storm Igor was located about 50 miles south of the Cape Verde Islands, over 3,700 miles from Miami, Florida.
- Igor is nearly stationary, drifting north near 2mph, but the forecast track takes Igor on a general west to west-northwest movement through the next 5 days, remaining well east of the Leeward Islands through early next week. Long range models suggest a northwestward turn in about 6 days.
- Maximum winds have decreased to 40mph, but once Igor moves west, environmental conditions will promote strengthening and Igor could become a hurricane by Sunday.
- The remnants of Hermine are now over Oklahoma and the remnants of Gaston are beginning to dissipate south of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
- A tropical wave over and just east of the southern Windward Islands is beginning to show signs of organization.
- The National Hurricane Center has placed a 40% chance of development through the next 2 days as it moves west into the Caribbean Sea.
- The complete suite of model track plots should be available later this morning. Global computer models develop this system and move it across the Caribbean and towards the Yucatan Peninsula through next week. The next name on the 2010 list is Julia.
