Franklin County takes over permitting for Carrabelle

The county planning and zoning office will soon take over issuing building permits for the city of Carrabelle. The county performed the function in the past, but Carrabelle began issuing its own building permits about 4 years ago. Now the city is ready to give that up. County planner Alan Pierce said the county would not only issue the building permits, but would also collect the permit fees and conduct building inspections. Pierce estimated the county could increase revenues by about 15 thousand dollars a year by doing the work and would not need to hire any additional personnel. The City of Carrabelle will continue to have its own Planning and Zoning Board to approve new construction within the city limits.
