Sheriff's officers arrest two in arson case

Franklin County sheriff’s officers have arrested two men in connection with a houseboat fire on the St. Marks River. Police say the houseboat, owned by Jimmy Lashley of Apalachicola, was parked on the St. Marks River just south of the East River Cutoff on July the 1st when emergency officials were called to a fire there. An investigation by the sheriff’s office and the state fire marshal’s office led them to believe the fire was intentionally set. On Tuesday officers arrested 36 year old Gregory Scott Finley and 22 year old Jeremy Joseph Mixon. Both men are charged with arson of the houseboat and are being held on 50 thousand dollars bond. Mister Mixon was on probation at the time of his arrest and there was no bond set for that. Sheriff’s officials say the investigation is continuing.
