Unemployment rises in June

Unemployment in Franklin County rose slightly again in June. 326 people were looking for work in Franklin County last month, up from 308 people in May. Preliminary unemployment was 6.6 percent – that’s up from 6.3 percent in May and up from 4 percent in June of 2008. Franklin County, however, is still at the bottom of the list in terms of unemployment in Florida – only Liberty County has a lower unemployment rate at 5.5 percent. The average unemployment in Florida hit 10.8 percent in June – 40 of Florida’s 67 counties have unemployment rates above 10 percent. In Flagler county unemployment hit 15.5 percent last month. Gulf County saw a increase in unemployment last month – 570 people were jobless there in June up from 541 in May. The unemployment rate rose from 8.4 percent to 8.8 percent. In Wakulla County unemployment rose from 7 percent to 7.2 percent; 1101 people were looking for work in that county in June.
