City of Apalachicola begins testing fire hydrants

The city of Apalachicola began testing its fire hydrants this week.

The city has hired the Inovia Consulting Group out of Tallahassee to conduct flow and pressure tests on all 200 hydrants on the city’s water system.

City commissioners ordered the tests after city firefighters discovered that a number of fire hydrants were not working properly during a house fire on February the 8th. That fire destroyed a home in Apalachicola’s historic district.

The fire hydrant tests are expected to cost the city around 20 thousand dollars; the tests are expected to take about a month to complete.
