Franklin County unemployment still above 10 percent

Unemployment in Franklin County declined slightly in February but still remained well above 10 percent.

Franklin County’s unemployment rate fell slightly from 10.7 percent in January percent to 10.6 percent last month. 517 Franklin County residents were looking for work – that’s actually 4 more people than in January, but the unemployment rate dropped because the workforce increased from 4797 to 4856.

The average unemployment rate in Florida was 12.2 percent in January. 55 of Florida’s 67 counties had unemployment rates above 10 percent with the highest unemployment in the state in Flagler County at 17 percent.

Gulf County saw its unemployment remain stable at 12.3 percent. 777 people were jobless there in February.

Wakulla County’s unemployment rose from 9.2 percent to 9.3 percent – there are over 1500 people looking for work there. Liberty County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida at 7.5 percent.
