57 percent of Franklin County households have returned their census forms

Nearly sixty percent of Franklin County residents have already returned their 2010 census forms. As of April the 9th, 57 percent of the census forms that were mailed to Franklin County households have been returned. The results include a 57 percent return rate from the City of Apalachicola and a 61 percent return rate from Carrabelle.

And even though Franklin County is doing better than it did during the 2000 census when only 45 percent of the forms are returned, we are still lagging behind some of our neighbors. The return rate in Gulf County is 59 percent; in Wakulla County its 66 percent.

Households that do not return the census forms can expect a visit from a census worker over the next few months.

Taking part in the census is important and it’s also the law. Census results help decide how nearly $400 billion dollars in federal money is distributed around the country funding necessary items like roads and bridges, schools, rural health programs, and emergency response programs.

Census numbers are also used to determine representation in Congress.
