The Franklin County School System says it will begin overseeing an after school program next week to replace a program recently ended by the Boys and Girls Club.
The Boys and Girls Club recently closed its after school program in Franklin and Jefferson Counties as part of a restructuring plan to ensure the program can continue to operate in other areas of the Big bend. That decision affects about 400 children between the two counties.
The Franklin County School System said this week that children who attended the Boys and Girls Club program will still have a place to go after school. The School system said beginning on Tuesday, April the 6th an after school program sponsored by the 21st Century Grant will continue to provide Franklin County children with educational, enrichment and recreational activities.
The after school program will be offered at locations count-wide including at the Apalachicola Bay charter School and the former Apalachicola High School in Apalachicola at the Franklin County School and at the Carrabelle City Complex.
