BP seeks commercial fishing vessels to help contain massive oil spill

BP is currently working on efforts to help control a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil is coming from the blown-out well of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, and it’s believed that 5,000 barrels a day of oil are spilling into the gulf posing a danger to the gulf coast and its seafood industry.

BP is currently looking for marine fishing vessels to help deploy boom in the Gulf to help contain the spill. So far nearly 100 thousand feet of boom has been deployed and there is another 400 thousand feet available for the effort.

The company is looking for commercial vessels including shrimp and oyster boats that could stage out of Venice, Louisiana, Mobile, Alabama, Biloxi, Mississippi, Pascagoula, Mississippi or Pensacola, Florida.

Currently the company is collecting information on vessels that might be able to help in the effort including the name of the vessel, the owner, the dimensions and the boats characteristics including length, draft and horsepower. If you have a vessel you would like to be considered, you should e-mail managing contractor Vince Mitchell at vince.mitchell@lamor.com.

You can also call him at 425-745-8017.

Direction and training will be provided for any of the vessels that are chosen to help in the effort.
