The Florida Department of Transportation plans to improve one of Franklin County’s busiest intersections next year. The DOT is currently in the design phase of adding turn lanes at the intersection of Highway 98 and Island Drive in Eastpoint.
The intersection is busy enough that the county had requested a traffic light there in the past but the state said traffic was not heavy enough to justify one. Instead the state will add turn lanes which should allow traffic on Highway 98 to continue moving even as vehicles are waiting to turn toward St. George Island.
Work on the project is slated to begin in 2011.
