Forgotten Coast lighthouse challenge this weekend

The first Forgotten Coast Lighthouse Challenge is coming up this weekend.

The lighthouse challenge will be held on Saturday, April 24th and Sunday, April 25th and will celebrate the four historic lighthouses in the area – Cape St. George Light, Crooked River Lighthouse, St. Marks Lighthouse, and Cape San Blas Lighthouse.

The event will also showcase the completion of St. George Lighthouse Park on St. George Island. The Lighthouse Park will be showing off new sod, new bottlebrush bushes and robellini palms, and the completion of the brick pathways that wind around the recently-reconstructed Cape St. George Light. The exterior construction of the Lighthouse Keeper’s House Museum will also be substantially finished.

The Lighthouse Challenge is expected to bring lighthouse enthusiasts from all over the country to climb the four historic lighthouses.

Challenge tickets will be available at any of the participating lighthouses on the days of the event. Tickets are $10.00 for an individual and 25 dollars for a family for up to five people. Each admission price includes one commemorative tote bag and one raffle ticket, and entitles participants to visit all four lighthouses.

Miss Florida USA 2010, Megan Clementi, and other pageant titleholders from around the State will participate in the Challenge as part of the “Climb for the Cure” to raise money and support for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Miss Clementi will also promote the “Visit our Lights” license plate, sponsored by the Florida Lighthouse Association to help fund preservation of Florida’s historic lighthouses.
