BP has opened a claims office in Apalachicola for residents and businesses that need to file claims with the oil company because of impacts from the ongoing Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The claims office is located at the old Apalachicola High School building.
The claims office is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to handle residential or commercial claims
A spokesman for BP said the office will remain open for as long as its needed.
Currently there has been no oil found on any of the beaches in North Florida but many tourist and seafood businesses are still feeling the impact through higher vacancy rates and fewer customers. Businesses should keep good records of any cancellations or loss of business that can be attributed to the oil spill so the information can be presented when making a claim.
People can begin the claims process by calling the claims toll free telephone number at 1-800-440-0858.
From there you will receive a claim number and can begin speaking to local representatives to have the claim reviewed and processed.
You can also file a claim on-line at by clicking HERE.
