Florida beginning to "rightsize" oil gusher response

Florida is beginning to tone down its response to the BP oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico – something they call rightsizing.
Department of Environmental Protection chief Mike Sole said the state is beginning a “cautious and measured” approach of toning down defensive measures because the capping of the well and progress toward permanent well-kill have reduced the threat of oil to Florida’s shores and sensitive environments.
He did add that boom will be redeployed as necessary, should conditions change.
Much of the boom in North Florida was removed prior to Tropical Storm Bonnie’s landfall to protect it from weather-related damage.
Much of that boom will not be replaced unless it’s needed and more boom will continue to be removed in the coming weeks.
Emergency response officials will also adjust staffing and resources based on current needs, but will maintain the ability to either increase or further reduce operations as necessary.
The state says that all available response and cleanup resources will remain in the areas of operation and can be redeployed immediately if needed.
