A mullet fisherman was rescued Wednesday after his boat sank near Carrabelle.
Donald Mock of Perry was pulled from the water near the mouth of the Carrabelle River just before 6 o’clock Wednesday morning; he had spent the night in the bay clinging to the net he had been fishing.
Mister Mock is the son of Donnie and Betty Ruth Mock of Carrabelle.
He had gone out Tuesday to fish for mullet around Dog Island.
Family members alerted police after he had not returned by midnight.
Sheriff’s officials, family members, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and United States Coast Guard Boat and Helicopter Search and Rescue Teams began searching the area of Apalachicola Bay and St George Sound between Carrabelle and Dog Island for the missing boater.
Mr. Mock told rescuers that he had been mullet fishing on Dog Island and that squalls earlier in the evening had made the bay very rough.
He had maneuvered to the West end of the island where he attempted to cross to the mainland but his boat sank after it took a swell over the bow and then one over the stern.
