Learn about climatic conditions at free class in Apalachicola, Florida

The National Weather Service depends on the public to report instances of damage stemming from Mother Nature’s fury.  The information supplied by residents will often help meteorologists’ determine whether the damage, or destruction was caused by a tornado, or downburst of wind.
On Mar. November 15th at 5:00 p.m., a forecaster from the National Weather Service Office in Tallahassee, Florida will be in Apalachicola, Florida to conduct a Storm Spotter class.  The class will take place in the Emergency Operations Center Building at the Apalachicola Airport at 28 Airport Road.  Those who attend will receive a basic class in determining various climatic conditions.
The class will be  free to the public.  Contact either Pamela Brownell, Mike Rundel, or Joyce Durham at the Franklin County Emergency Management Office at 1-850-653-8977.

For those who are interested, but cannot attend, an on-line, computer edition of the class is offered.  The National Weather Service and the Florida Emergency Management Agency are stepping up the public focus on “severe” weather. An emphasis is being placed on tornados.  It is proven that advanced planning and increased awareness
will help residents of Florida survive these deadly storms.
