The following Schedule of events for the 2011 Camp Gordon Johnston Days to be held on March 10, 11, and 12 in Carrabelle, Florida having been approved by the Camp Gordon Johnston Association Board of Directors is as follows.
The 16th Annual Reunion has been extended into a full three-day affair with fun-filled events occurring on each day.
Thursday, March 10, 2011: The 3rd Annual John Stallman and Anthony (Tony) Falotico Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the St. James Bay Golf Course. The daylong event will include teams of four playing in a Florida Scramble format. The CGJA has asked the Florida Disabled Veterans Association to bring in four veterans to in the tournament and the St. James Bay Golf Club will comp their green fees and meals.
There will be an awards ceremony, dinner/dance, and silent auction as well. Proceeds go towards the CGJ WWII Building Fund. For information and registration go to: www.campgordonjohnston.com and click on “events” page.
Friday, March 11th: hospitality Room will be set up at the CGJ WWII Museum for registration. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served in the Canteen Room and tickets for The Saturday Events will be sold at that time. Go to www.campgordonjohnston.com for complete events information.
Friday, March 11th: US Army’s 824th Heavy Boat Company from Tampa is scheduled to arrive and dock at the community dock on Marine Street. They have scheduled their Ocean Going Landing Craft. The public is invited to come aboard for a tour of this craft. (Let’s keep our fingers crossed they’re not deployed at that time)
Friday, March 11th: C-Quarters Marina, in Carrabelle, will be hosting the 1st annual Camp Gordon Johnston Days Fishing tournament and will have a “Low Country Boil” after awards ceremony. For information and registration, go to:
Friday, March 11th in the evening: The American Legion Post 82, Camp Gordon Johnston will host its annual social hour with a seafood buffet and live music. All WWII veterans drink free. Active duty soldiers will be in attendance and they will first in line.
Saturday, March 12th: The Carrabelle Masonic Lodges is hosting a breakfast.
Saturday, March 12th: The CGJ Days annual parade will be held on Hwy 98. This years lineup includes a restored WWII U.S. Army Halftrack and Stuart light tank as well as the CGJA DUKW. There will be other vintage military vehicles as well. Of course the U.S. Army Band from Ft. Rucker will lead the parade followed by marching soldiers from the 332nd. Transportation Battalion. Saturday March 12th, in the evening: The 16th annual CGJ Reunion Days Dinner/Dance will be held in the Carrabelle Municipal Complex Cafeteria/Auditorium. The Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum will be open throughout the three-day event and welcomes all visitors to come and learn of Franklin County’s contributions to the American Military experience.
