BP payments to Florida top 1 billion dollars

BP has paid out more than 1.1 billion dollars to Florida because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The company released payment and investment numbers on Tuesday that show the payments through December the 9th.
The vast majority of the money has been paid out in directly to businesses and individuals taking part in the claims process.
So far BP has paid 963 million dollars in claims in the Sunshine State.
The company has also spent 72 million dollars on the Vessel of Opportunity Program, and $65 million dollars for oil cleanup and removal.
That cleanup work continues, as crews continue to monitor Florida beaches and clean up any oil they find.
Another $32 million dollars went to Florida’s tourism industry including the Franklin County Tourist Development Council.
The local council used the money to increase advertising for Franklin County and to provide gift cards to people who visited the county in September.
Additional payments include $10 million to the Florida Institute of Oceanography, and $3 million to the state for behavioral health.
