PORT ST JOE, Fla. – Have you or your loved one been diagnosed with diabetes? Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf and Jenny Stuckey, registered nurse and certified diabetes educator, will host a diabetes self-management class on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the conference room at the hospital.
The self-management class is open to adults with diabetes who are looking for ways to manage their disease. The class will cover topics on exercise, medication and nutrition for patients to reduce the symptoms of diabetes. Pre-registration is required and a physician referral is needed to attend the class. The $10 fee will include lunch for the day.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, which is a hormone that is needed to convert starches, sugar and other food into the energy you need for daily life. Unfortunately, the exact cause of diabetes is not known, but genetics, obesity and lack of exercise are considered risk factors.
For more information or to join the class, please call Ruthie Rhodes at (850) 229-5620. For more information about Sacred Heart, please visit www.sacredheartonthegulf.org.
