A Sopchoppy man was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting at a hunter in a deer stand.
Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 36-year-old Sopchoppy Michael Lynn Lott, Jr.
The Wakulla County sheriff’s office said they believe Mister Lott shot at a hunter as he was sitting in a deer stand last Wednesday – Mister Lott claims he was shooting at squirrels.
The 48-year-old Crawfordville hunter who called 911 said he was sitting in the tree stand when he heard birdshot coming toward him from someone who was cursing in the distance.
Investigators said they found Mister Lott’s camper near the hunting lease property along with a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun that detectives determined had been recently fired.
They also found the fired shotgun shell casings near the entrance of the hunting lease property.
Mister Lott was arrested without incident and now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and improper exhibition of a firearm.
