A yellow bullhead catfish caught in Crystal River on December 17th is the new state record for that species.
The fish 5 pounds, .75 ounces and was 20 inches in length.
Tom Flynn of Homosassa caught the record-breaking while fishing for mangrove snapper with minnows.
Mister Flynn had actually caught two fish that beat the previous state record of 2.9 pounds.
Eric Thomas, an FWC freshwater fish biologist from the Ocala regional office, verified the new record yellow bullhead.
The world record for this species is a 6-pound, 6-ounce yellow bullhead that John Irvin caught in Bates County, Missouri on May 27th, 2006.
