Three flood warning and forecast monitoring stations will be built in Franklin County in about 10 weeks.
The new stations are part of a 400 thousand dollar program through the Northwest Florid Water Management District to enhance North Florida’s flood and storm surge warning network.
The grant will pay for 33 of the stations across 7 North Florida Counties which will record and transmit continual, real-time rainfall, water level and stream flow data.
The information will help officials decide which roads to close and when to issue advance warnings so that people have time to protect their property or leave the area.
The information will be available in real-time over the internet so residents can evaluate flood conditions for themselves and decide what actions they need to take.
