February is busy at the Dixie Theatre

Ballet, Bob and a Brilliant Comedy at the DIXIE for February

The Dixie Theatre continues their 14th Professional Season with Pas de Vie Ballet presenting Dance at the DIXIE. In its 22nd year, Pas de Vie has progressed from small studio-based performances to packed houses, becoming a vibrant part of Tallahassee's artistic community.  We’re thrilled to have them for an evening of romantic Pas de Duex at the DIXIE on February 4 at 8 PM.

Bob Milne is considered the best ragtime/boogie-woogie pianist in the world. He was declared a “National Treasure” by the Library of Congress and is an active “Musical Ambassador” for the United States Dept. of State. Returning to the DIXIE for his 12th year, Bob has been playing in concert halls since 1991 and plays worldwide every year. He delights audiences with his piano-playing pyrotechnics and his infectious enthusiasm for the music and the history behind the music. He teaches music history at various universities around the country, and is also the founder and director of the Frankenmuth Ragtime Festival in Michigan. The list of music festivals he’s appeared at is extensive; the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Eau Claire Ragtime Festival, Sacramento Ragtime Festive, plus many others. Mr. Milne has been averaging approximately 250 performances per year.
Bobs schedule this February:

10 - Thursday 7 :30 PM - Silent Movie Night
11 - Friday 7:30 PM "Rags of the River"
12 - Saturday  7:30 PM "Tin Pan Alley Lives"

KIMBERLY AKIMBO a brilliant adult comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire back by popular request. Kimberly is a teenager with a rare condition causing her body to age faster that it should. When she and her family flee Secaucus, NJ under dubious circumstances, she is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love. The New York Times says "...haunting and hilarious..." "It's a bit of youthful happiness unlike any other" –  Associated Press "...theatre at its most original." – New York 1 "A wacky, touching and totally charming dark comedy that gives a whole new meaning to 'coming of age story'" The New York Daily News "There have been many dark comedies about dysfunctional families, but this is one of the funniest."  - The Los Angeles Times
Returning to the DIXIE for his 7th Season is Actor/Director David Hemsley Caldwell who will not only direct this production of Kimberly Akimbo, but play her Father Buddy. Also returning to Apalachicola for his 2nd Season is Len Pfluger, Len will be Stage Managing this production. New to the Dixie Theatre Professional Company this season is Caitlin Morris from New York and Meyer deLeeuw from Los Angeles California. Rounding out the cast is Cleo Holladay reprising her role as Kimberly and Dixie Partington. KIMBERLY AKIMBO runs Wednesday February 16 thru Sunday February 27 with Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday matinees at 3 PM and Friday & Saturdays at 8 PM.
