Weekly Talks Inform Visitors About Sea Turtle Nesting
Visitors interested in learning about sea turtle nesting can attend weekly sea turtle presentations at 2 p.m. on July 13 and 20 at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve Visitor Center in Eastpoint. The ANERR Visitor Center is located at 1008 Island Drive just across theSt. George Island bridge in Eastpoint.  For more information, visit www.seaturtlesatrisk.org and the St. George Island Visitor's Center
Here are some tips to make your turtle experience positive for each of you

. Keep exterior lights out and shades drawn between dusk and dawn.
. Avoid shining lights on a sea turtle or snapping flash photos.
. Take in beach chairs, tents and toys at night, so a sea turtle won't get tangled in them. Fill in any holes you dig on the beach.
. If you are lucky enough to see a turtle;stay away and watch from a distance. Better yet, call a turtle volunteer (850-927-2103) to monitor the event.
St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge Supporters Kick Off "Adopt A Sea Turtle Nest" Campaign
Can't get enough of sea turtles? Why not adopt one? The Supporters of St. Vincent National Wildlife Reserve have begun the second year of their “adopt a seat turtle nest” program to increase awareness of the annual sea turtle nesting season. For a nominal fee, you
can “adopt” a specific sea turtle nest on St. Vincent Island. Your contribution nets you an “adoption certificate”, a photo of the nest, and a complete activity report at the end of the nesting season.  All donors will also be recognized in the Supporter’s newsletter. Donations help pay for the cost of the wire cages, supplies, and fuel for the patrol vehicles which go out several times a week to look for new turtle nests.  If you have an interest in adopting a sea turtle nest this season, you can e-mail the Supporters of St. Vincent National Wildlife Reserve at supportstvin@hotmail.com or call them at 850-229-6735.
