DOH TO HOST PUBLIC MEETINGS TO ADDRESS PROPOSED CHANGES TO BEACH WATER SAMPLING

- Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program changes proposed -

TALLAHASSEE - Since 2000, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has been performing beach water sampling at 304 locations in 34 counties. DOH invites the public to attend four public meetings to learn more about proposed changes in the beach monitoring program. Proposed changes to the current beach monitoring include reducing the number of locations to be monitored, reducing sampling from weekly to biweekly and suspending  winter sampling at beaches where swimming is minimal.
If anyone is unable to attend a public meeting, but wish to provide comments, concerns or ideas, DOH will accept written correspondence via email no later than July 28, 2011. Emails can be sent to David Polk at david_polk@doh.state.fl.us
Each meeting will entail a brief history of the healthy beaches monitoring program, considerations for program changes and public comments.
