Franklin County Humane Society suffers from too many unadopted black dogs

Black Dog Syndrome

Unfortunately and unfairly, black dogs are the most overlooked dogs in a shelter.  They are usually the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized in many shelters.  This phenomenon is so wide spread it has earned the name “Black Dog Syndrome”.

There are several theories as to why this is.  Some say it’s due to folklore; many scary stories include a black dog in the scenario.  Some people think black dogs are mean and some just consider them ordinary, none of which are true.

Black dogs are just as sweet and extraordinary as their lighter coated counterparts.  Their shiny black coats are stunning and more often than not, cover the body of a perfectly wonderful and sweet dog that is as deserving of adoption as any other.

The Humane Society has many black dogs right now and needs the community and our visitors to come out and meet these special dogs.  They have black pups and black adult dogs, most of them are Lab or Lab mixes, all of them waiting for their forever home.

If you have room in your heart and home, please consider adopting one of these worthy black dogs.
